3 Life Skills You Want To Take From Your Job

***This post was contributed and may contain affiliate links. There are many things you can take from your job or career to benefit you personally…and, no, this isn’t about stealing office supplies for home use. Among the technical skills and job specifics you glean from your position, there are other savvy skills that will serve you. And, these days, with our jobs taking so much of our time, we want to get all that we can out of those precious hours. Here are 3 life skills you want to take from your job.

Life Skills You Want to Take from Your Job #1: Negotiation Skills

Depending on the type of job you do, you’ve probably had to haggle at some point. Whether this is over salary, time, benefits, client sales, contracts, or new hires, you gain valuable insight and wisdom.  Negotiating builds up your confidence with speaking and problem-solving. Last time I checked these are two things that most people want to do well.

Negotiating skills you get from your job very well may help you to run your home and finances better. It may also come in handy when dealing with family crisis or challenges.

Life Skills You Want to Take from Your Job #2: Sense of Justice

Working with a staff of many personalities and needs can help you to understand fairness and equality. This is something you might not have the opportunity to see otherwise. Finding solutions to problems among a group is not always easy and requires emotional balance, wisdom, and empathy. If you are a boss, a task like making sure the company provides proper compensation for workers teaches you how to be just. Simply knowing that your decisions can affect other people’s lives is a good reason to cultivate this skill. And, remember, your sense of justice affects all whom you come in contact with, in your business or personal life

Life Skills You Want to Take from Your Job #3: Greater Compassion

Being kind and compassionate to family and friends is something that comes naturally to many women. However, it could be a stretch to extend this natural commodity to people in the workplace. That’s why it’s important to pay attention to opportunities that need some compassion. Simply making yourself available in touchy situations at work can help you to cultivate your ability to serve compassionately.

We are all human and need to know that others care. Companies that don’t show compassion to their workers are ones that won’t be as successful in the long run.  Even if you are not in a position of leadership in your company, you still want to practice being a woman who cares about others and their success. Doing this will ultimately create a stronger self-value and experience you can take with you wherever you go.

Our jobs are such a big part of our lives, whether we do them at home or away. Women have so much power to create loving change in the world. Being the most skilled, just, and compassionate person you can be in all that you do will serve mankind well.

About Kellie R. Stone

"I make no excuses for my diverse roles as a Rock Your Feminine Type Coach™ and Branding Expert, best-selling author, and crime thriller novelist. Yes, I do still chuckle a bit at the irony. I kick ass as a women’s biz coach by day and kill off vulnerable fiction characters at night. What the hell, it makes for some interesting dreams. I believe that everyone should pursue their passions no matter how out there they seem to be. One of those pure heart-fluttering passions for me has always been writing. Since I did, indeed, chase my dream of being a writer, I've published two non-fiction books in the self-development genre, co-authored an international best seller, and now I'm finally pushing my much-too-old-to-be-in-the-nest novel out the door and into the world. My whole world is empowering and I adore showing others how to live life unfiltered, whether I do that through the written word or my coaching work. I love my job!" ~Kellie R. Stone
