3 Major Steps To Landing Your Dream Job

It’s no secret that many of us settle for jobs we don’t really like in order to pay the bills. Though there is nothing wrong with this, it can leave us feeling unfulfilled and unhappy. Furthermore, once you start working at a job you might not be able to quit right away to pursue a dream career. However, if you make a plan and take steps toward it, changes will happen. Here are several of those steps to help you get closer to your dream job.

Know What You Want

Knowing what you want might not always be clear simply because we can change our minds at various stages of our lives. However, as we age and experience more life (and jobs), we get a much clearer sense of who we are and what makes us happy. Once you have some idea of what hasn’t served you and what you are passionate about, write a basic outline, showing the main pros and cons of pursuing a new job.

Keep in mind that fulfilling your professional life may not mean that you need to change careers altogether. For example, if you are already a personal injury or truck accident lawyer but are burnt out on that focus, consider changing the type of law you practice. This, of course, takes some shifting of time, resources, and maybe even location, but it is completely possible.

Get Your Education or Skillset

Once you know what you want to do, consider what skills and education you will need to do make the change to the position that you want. If this means that you have to go back to school, research your best options financially and for your lifestyle. This is considering that you will likely need to stay at your current job until you are ready to make the move. If you love the company you work for but would like to move up, ask what benefits they have for furthering your education.

If You Can’t Get It, Start It

The final thing to mention is that if your dream job is out of reach, there is another option. If you are an adventurous woman who is willing to work hard and take a risk, what about starting your own business? Maybe you already dabble in a hobby that you are passionate about. Could it provide a source of income if you took it more seriously? I recommend getting some quality advice from other business owners or a business coach to help you sort out the possibilities. Remember, it’s your dream. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something.
