5 Healthful Ways To Move Forward After Trauma

***This post was a collaboration and may contain affiliate links. Wouldn’t it be marvelous if we all had a crystal ball to peer into? This goes doubly for after a hard-hitting trauma like divorce, illness, loss of a loved one, or an accident. These times can bring on a fog that lasts for months or even years. Though this isn’t necessarily healthy, it’s a normal response to things that change your life abruptly. I’ve been through some pretty horrific events in my life but also understand they contributed to the woman I am today. I do know that it’s important to create a safe and healthful environment in order to heal and move on. Here are 5 things you can do to move forward after trauma.

Move Forward After Trauma #1: Set Some Goals

Major challenges, such as recovery from health issues or dealing with raw emotions are situations that need some boundaries and goals. First, you need to know where and how you are now. Try to measure this in a tangible way, for example, how many days a week do you get out of bed? How many steps can you take? How many days have you been sober? You get the idea. The measurement is important so you know when you are making progress…or not.

The next step is to know where you are going and what you want to accomplish. Set these goals with gentleness and self-love above all else. Don’t go all drill sergeant on yourself to get it done in a day. In other words, give yourself time to heal and grieve any loss. The key is to dissect the situation and set yourself achievable goals to move on. This might be milestones to hit when it comes to health, it might be stepping out of your comfort zones to overcome a fear or disability. Setting goals helps you to strategize the way you will move forward with your life.

Move Forward After Trauma #2: Consider Your Mindset

Your mindset plays a big role in overcoming challenges. You have choices to make that could change the trajectory of your life forever. Yeah, your mind is that important. One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was to never make life-altering decisions when you are emotionally compromised. Calm down, reset, get your thoughts out of the gutter before you drive your life into another brick wall.

A positive mindset can uplift you and give you the courage to press through even the hardest things. So, how do you change your state of mind? It’s not always easy, but it’s doable. For starters, being grateful for everything you are and have goes a long way to bring some light in. No excuses. No Blaming. And no victim mentality. Remember these three always.

Move Forward After Trauma #3: Get Help

Sometimes you need outside help to overcome the challenges facing you. First and foremost, talk to your healthcare providers to help you make a plan to heal and move forward. They might recommend some counseling, physical therapy or a recovery group. Don’t underestimate the power of professional assistance such as that found at places like rehabilitation orchard park health care. Whatever situation you face, there is nothing to be ashamed of. Get the help you need…period!

Move Forward After Trauma #4: Consider A Holistic Approach

Do some research into natural remedies and treatments for your specific issue. Taking supplements, getting a massage, energy healing, even seeing a psychic are all practices that could help you get your life back. Ultimately, you will see a whole person again when you treat each part (body, mind, and spirit) with respect and love.

I recommend getting referrals from friends and family for alternative practitioners. This way you don’t have to worry about their level of quality and care. Always check with your doctor before taking any supplements or going forward with any treatments.

About Kellie R. Stone

"I make no excuses for my diverse roles as a Rock Your Feminine Type Coach™ and Branding Expert, best-selling author, and crime thriller novelist. Yes, I do still chuckle a bit at the irony. I kick ass as a women’s biz coach by day and kill off vulnerable fiction characters at night. What the hell, it makes for some interesting dreams. I believe that everyone should pursue their passions no matter how out there they seem to be. One of those pure heart-fluttering passions for me has always been writing. Since I did, indeed, chase my dream of being a writer, I've published two non-fiction books in the self-development genre, co-authored an international best seller, and now I'm finally pushing my much-too-old-to-be-in-the-nest novel out the door and into the world. My whole world is empowering and I adore showing others how to live life unfiltered, whether I do that through the written word or my coaching work. I love my job!" ~Kellie R. Stone
