5 Tips For Passing A Medical Exam

For many, taking a medical exam can be stressful. Whether you are applying for life insurance or taking a pre-placement examination for a job, medical examinations can be important to your future. Furthermore, if you have a recent history of excessive alcohol, tobacco, or drug use, things get really tricky. Even a poor diet can wreak havoc on some of the routine tests that are required for some situations. Though you may not be able to hide all of the evidence of a poor lifestyle, you can help things look a little better. Here are 5 tips for passing a medical exam.

Passing A Medical Exam #2: Get A Good Night Sleep

Before a medical exam and bloodwork, try to get at least 8 hours of sleep the night before and even a few nights before. Quality sleep improves your heart rate, blood pressure, and the functionality of other body systems. Doing some meditation and stress-busting activities before bed can help you fall asleep faster. Avoid taking sleeping pills and other OTC medications as they could negatively affect your medical exam.

Passing A Medical Exam #2: Drink A Lot Of Water

In the days leading up to your medical exam, it is important to drink a lot of water. Water helps the body to flush out toxins as well as function at a more optimal level. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water every day will ensure that you are well hydrated. This will also make it easier for the phlebotomist to draw blood. It will also help you to produce a quality urine sample.

Passing A Medical Exam #3: Refrain From Drinking Alcohol and Caffeine

Try to stay away from alcoholic beverages a week before your medical exam and caffeine the day before. Traces of alcohol can remain in your bloodstream for several days. It can also elevate your liver enzymes levels thereby throwing off your liver function test results. Caffeine can elevate your blood pressure as well as your heart rate. Simply put, be mindful of eating and drinking only healthful things the week of your testing.

Passing A Medical Exam #4: Follow Instructions

It is important to follow all instructions regarding the tests you are taking. That means you may need to fast before taking a blood exam. Many people don’t take this seriously and end up throwing off blood sugar and other blood tests. If possible, try to schedule your blood work for early morning so you don’t have to fast for long. Alternatively, if you are taking a stress test or other types of functional tests, do them when you feel the most energetic. You will need to be properly nourished for these types of tests.

Passing A Medical Exam #5: Detoxify Your Body

A short detox can help the body with the natural cleansing process and flush out the toxins that we are exposed to every day. Before taking that medical exam, find a gentle and safe way to detox your body. This can be as simple as drinking a detox tea or eating only fruits and veggies for a few days.

There a many types of detox protocols that help rid the body of chemicals, pesticides, artificial food ingredients and metals that can harm your body and cause negative health effects. First, eating the right foods that support the detoxification process will always benefit you, medical exam or not. Ditch the junk foods and replace them with healthy organic vegetables and fruits.
