4 Ways To Amp Up A Dull Career

Doing the same job day after day can get boring and tedious, especially if you’ve been doing it for a long time. This could actually cause you to hate your career altogether. Unfortunately, many women get stuck in positions they no longer love because they need the money or other benefits. If this is the case for you, think carefully about what you truly need from the job. There are some ways to amp up a dull career. Most importantly, do what makes you happy and still gives you what you need financially and otherwise.

Amp Up a Dull Career #1: Identify what You Want to Change

You first need to identify what has become dull and unsatisfying in your job or career. It’s sort of one of those “don’t throw the baby out with the bath water” things. You don’t want to jump ship on a career you’ve built for years just because a couple things are problematic. Perhaps a long talk with the higher-ups would solve the problem.

If you are determined to change jobs or careers, make sure you are doing it for the right reasons. I recommend giving it some creative thought first before you do anything permanent. There could be some new things you could take on in your current position that would bring excitement and challenge back to your day.

Amp Up A Dull Career #2: Train For Something New

Whether you choose to stay at your current job or not, getting some new training will expand your abilities. If you’ve always wanted to go back to college, do it! That said, you don’t have to invest in a full-time program or get a new degree to shake things up. Simple training in something that you’re passionate about, like writing or life coach courses can help you feel challenged and as though you’re moving forward. I believe keeping our minds sharp helps us to feel happy and satisfied no matter what we’re doing.

Amp Up A Dull Career #3: Work for Yourself

If you want to change jobs, who says you have to work for someone else? Do you have a hobby or passion that could be turned into a money maker? Could you put all of that business savvy you’ve collected over the years to use in your own company? There are many benefits of working for yourself, however, it’s something to thoroughly consider before doing. I highly recommend taking at least six months to plan and research the details of what you want to do before you commit to it. And, certainly, don’t quit your job until you know you can replace your income.

Amp Up A Dull Career #4: Volunteer

You may need to add some stimulating outside activities to your life to bring you out of dullsville. Volunteering with an organization or local charity just might give you the satisfaction you’re craving. You will meet new people and explore new ways to express your creativity and knowledge. Additionally, you could even ask your company to get involved with a specific charity and allow you to head up a volunteer program.

Careers can get dull and quite boring at times. This isn’t always a sign that you need to bail and move on. However, it could be time to fly if you’re absolutely sure that you need to do something else. The point is to know what you want and take steps to fulfill those desires.

About Kellie R. Stone

"I make no excuses for my diverse roles as a Rock Your Feminine Type Coach™ and Branding Expert, best-selling author, and crime thriller novelist. Yes, I do still chuckle a bit at the irony. I kick ass as a women’s biz coach by day and kill off vulnerable fiction characters at night. What the hell, it makes for some interesting dreams. I believe that everyone should pursue their passions no matter how out there they seem to be. One of those pure heart-fluttering passions for me has always been writing. Since I did, indeed, chase my dream of being a writer, I've published two non-fiction books in the self-development genre, co-authored an international best seller, and now I'm finally pushing my much-too-old-to-be-in-the-nest novel out the door and into the world. My whole world is empowering and I adore showing others how to live life unfiltered, whether I do that through the written word or my coaching work. I love my job!" ~Kellie R. Stone
