Breaking Cycles

IntrospectiveSunday

I was thinking about how many women tend to repeat themselves (me included) not only in conversation but in their life-journey.  Is it that we don’t think that we’ve made our point, or that others aren’t paying attention?  Why do we find it necessary to keep revisiting our mistakes, bad attitudes, negative thinking, and poor decisions that ultimately land us in the same miserable place?  It’s familiar and safe…that’s why.

Looping the Airport

Have you ever been on a plane that was forced to “loop the airport” because of traffic or some other issue?  It’s a little aggravating, especially if you have another flight to catch or have a screaming baby with you.  It’s a hindrance – one that keeps you from your destination.  And though the city lights and skyline might be nice from the aerial view for the extra 10 minutes, true comfort and peace (the assurance that you are not going to crash land) enlists only when you come to a full stop at the gate.

Interestingly enough, we keep looping (by choice) when it comes to our lives.

Do Something Different…Anything

I have found that when stuck in a rut (a muddy ditch with monsters that grab you and don’t let go) if I do anything different than I have the past fifty times, I get a new result.  Wow, can you say “law of physics”, Kellie?  This is introspection at it’s best – hardcore self-awareness that uncovers the hardcore self-delusions.

You know how I like to use sports analogies; here’s one for you: Coaches will closely watch the opposing team, looking for clues that will help win the game.  If patterns are obvious he or she finds developing strategic countermeasures easier.  The other team is predictable, and if they continue their habits (bad or good) they will less likely win as the competitors will know how to overcome them.  However, if they constantly change their own strategies, no other team will know what to expect; a different result, winning in this case.  Do you get my point?

A Pat On the Back

I try to give myself praise for making even the smallest changes in my life.  You don’t have to do everything at once to deserve a pat on the back.  That “plane” goes through hundreds of small procedures before it can land. Victory comes one day at a time or even one minute at a time.

“Whenever I have to choose between two evils, I always like to try the one I haven’t tried before.”

Mae West

I love that quote.  Though she likely meant it to be funny and sassy (her personality) it lends itself to a deeper wisdom.  Think about your patterns this week.  If there is something small you can do differently…do it.  I’d love to hear about it!  Be well-be beautiful.

About Kellie R. Stone

"I make no excuses for my diverse roles as a Rock Your Feminine Type Coach™ and Branding Expert, best-selling author, and crime thriller novelist. Yes, I do still chuckle a bit at the irony. I kick ass as a women’s biz coach by day and kill off vulnerable fiction characters at night. What the hell, it makes for some interesting dreams. I believe that everyone should pursue their passions no matter how out there they seem to be. One of those pure heart-fluttering passions for me has always been writing. Since I did, indeed, chase my dream of being a writer, I've published two non-fiction books in the self-development genre, co-authored an international best seller, and now I'm finally pushing my much-too-old-to-be-in-the-nest novel out the door and into the world. My whole world is empowering and I adore showing others how to live life unfiltered, whether I do that through the written word or my coaching work. I love my job!" ~Kellie R. Stone
