A Simply “Scentsational” Find

“It is always the simple things that change our lives.  And these things never happen when you are looking for them to happen.  Life will reveal answers at the pace life wishes to do so.  You feel like running, but life is on a stroll.  This is how God does things.”  This Donald Miller quote describes how I felt when I discovered some simple products made by a wonderful, simple woman.

The Discovery

Our not-by-chance meeting happened while I was checking out the vendor area of a local festival.  Naturally, I was drawn to the booth that displayed a grand selection of soaps that I could smell from yards away.  One by one, I took in the heavenly scents of the Cinnamon, Sandalwood, Vanilla, and many other luscious varieties of the all-natural, homemade bars.

A New Friend and Business Contact

I found myself  relaxed and thankful that I stopped by the mini-store.  The owner, Janis Rogers, immediately began to talk to me about her products and found that I was more than interested in listening.  We continued a conversation that developed into the networking I love and drives this website.  I asked Janis if she would allow me to review products and interview her for a Women’s Life Link post.  She agreed!

The Product Trial

First, let me say; I have never used any homemade soaps with which I was completely satisfied.  So, going into this, I was already skeptical.  I chose the Sandalwood/Pachtouli variety for my review (two of my favorite scents).  The first night I decided to do something that was a long shot; I washed my face with soap.  You have to understand that I’m a skin care system die-hard.  I just don’t use soap on my forty-something face- maybe the body, but definitely not the face.

Well, the results shocked me (pleasantly).  The rich, milky bar cleansed my face with care.  It didn’t dry it out; it didn’t cause those flaky damage paths that most soaps leave on your skin; and it did not disappoint this connoisseur of fine skin-care lines.  WOW!  My face was smooth, clean, and ready for the next of Jan’s recommended products.

Something Amazing

I was excited about this one as I had tried some on my hand at the festival.  Monoi de Tahiti, she calls it.  The oil came in an understated bottle and most would likely pass it up without a second look if it hadn’t been out there to try.  Janis also explained its origins which intrigued me.

She informed me that the secret of Monoi do Tahiti lies in the delicate 100% naturathumbl vegetable blend that is extracted from the rich Tahitian Tumu Ha’ari “Cocos Nucifera) palm tree and from the local “Tiare” (Gardenia Tahitensis) flowers.  Together they create a rich, non-greasy emollient/moisturizer that penetrates quickly into the skin and acts as a natural barrier against dehydration- the major cause of wrinkles.

A Little Goes a Long Way

I only needed a few drops to cover my entire face and neck, which really didn’t matter; I could have used the whole jar and not been out much.  The sample size retails for only $5.00.  Again, I was astounded at the beautiful results.  My face felt devine!  Properly moisturized, not too much; not too little.  What’s more, I had a distinct glow that rarely comes with any creme-at any price level.

I have been using the Monoi on my entire body every day since I got it (I have to get some more)!  My body is glowing with youthful dewiness, my stretch marks seem to be less noticeable, and I love the mild fragrance that makes me feel pretty.  Janis Rogers, you get an A+ for your “scentsational” products!

About the Creator

Jan’s Bath Scentsations/StoneybrookNaturals is a home-based business that keeps Rogers busy with the development of new products and the constant demand for her current line.  “I have always been a person who wanted to help others.  And, I have always wanted to run my own small business,” said Janis in our recent interview.  “I pride myself on my ability to create recipes and to communicate with others about their needs.”

After getting to know Janis a little better, it was easy to see why her products are so special.  She runs her business with integrity and measures a dose of love, kindness, and faith into every batch of homemade soap.  This simple, Indiana woman may not wear the latest fashions or have a cutting edge web design, but she delivers a superior product.  This is evident by looking at the faces of both her and Charlie (her husband).  The middle-aged couple could pass for much younger as their skin is pure, smooth, and without the usual wrinkles that come with the territory.

It was personal need that got the business started.  “I wanted to create something my husband and I could use on our skin that would be healthy.  Because I was always intrigued about how people made soap in the pioneer days, Iwanted to try it.  I discovered that by using today’s methods, and utilizing nature’s natural plant oils, a great bar of soap could be made.”

Beauty Tips From Jan

Janis advises women to “drink lots of water, get plenty of sleep, and use a natural skin-loving soap.  Your skin is your largest organ and it needs to be treated kindly.  Many conditions are irritated by using the wrong soap.”  She goes on to say, “Don’t spend too much time in the sun; and if going out in the sun, use a sunblock.  Use makeup in moderation.”  Women’s Life Link agrees with her simple plan for natural beauty.  Great job!

In Conclusion

I am sold on Jan’s products!  I’m not saying I will axe my beloved Aveda line, but I sure will add a few of her soaps and definitely the Monoi de Tahiti.  Oh, I almost forgot…there was another pleasant benefit of the soap; it made the bathroom smell wonderful!  Please visit Jan’s Bath Scentsations to order her wonderful, organic products.

I kick ass as a women’s biz coach by day and kill off vulnerable fiction characters at night. What the hell, it makes for some interesting dreams. I believe that everyone should pursue their passions no matter how out there they seem to be. One of those pure heart-fluttering passions for me has always been writing. Since I did, indeed, chase my dream of being a writer, I've published two non-fiction books in the self-development genre, co-authored an international best seller, and now I'm finally pushing my much-too-old-to-be-in-the-nest novel out the door and into the world. My whole world is empowering and I adore showing others how to live life unfiltered, whether I do that through the written word or my coaching work. I love my job!" ~Kellie R. Stone
