3 Simple Ways To Improve Your Professional Appearance

Your appearance in the workplace and for business matters for several reasons. The first thing is that others do get an impression of you from what you look like whether you want them to or not. This can be positive or negative. Secondly, caring about your appearance helps you to feel more confident in what you do. And, thirdly, if you’re trying to move up in a company, a polished look can help you to appear more aware and connected. On the flip side, a poor, messy look can give the impression that you don’t care and are not interested in details. So, if you’re hoping to be taken more seriously at work or in your business, consider the following simple ways to improve your professional appearance.

Bring Your Wardrobe up a Notch

If you are working in a corporate environment or have your own business, consider going through your wardrobe and letting go of anything that isn’t serving you. The process of rebuilding your wardrobe can be done a little at a time or all at once, depending on your budget and needs. The main thing to keep in mind is that it is an investment for your career and can help protect business reputation as a business owner or an employee.

If you try to imagine business owners, entrepreneurs, or even innovative thinkers in the business world your brain may have most likely envisioned someone in a suit, right?  This doesn’t mean for your role that you need to wear a suit specifically in order to do well. All it means is that your wardrobe is a representation of your standard and willingness to do your best. Also, consider getting your clothes tailored to fit, as this can give even inexpensive clothing a rich, polished look.

Improve Other Aspects of Your Appearance

A lot of things go into creating a quality professional appearance. Though clothing is a big part of it, other things like hair, teeth, makeup, grooming, and hygiene are just as important. I am mentioning this not to say that you have to look a certain way to be acceptable but to emphasize the importance of doing the best you can with what you have.  In other words, learn how to make improvements by watching makeup tutorials, reading fashion blogs, and keeping up with personal hygiene. If your smile is an issue, look into dental procedures that could help. Places like http://www.dentalmakeovers.com/ can help you perfect your smile and bring out a higher level of self-confidence.

Work on Body Language

Though it’s easy to forget about, body language can play a huge role in how others perceive you.  If you’re slumped over your desk and sluggishly walk to meetings, you could be perceived as lazy or disinterested in your work. And, crossing your arms coupled with an unpleasant resting face, can reveal resentment, anger, or dissatisfaction. It takes some practice to build awareness, but conscious awareness of your body language will help you to bring a more positive attitude from yourself and others. You don’t want to project the wrong attitude.
