Believe it or not, what you choose to do and not to do each day consistently can have a huge impact on your health and happiness. So having awareness about how your lifestyle affects you is the first step to understanding how to live a fulfilling life in good health. You’re ultimately in the driver’s seat and are in control of what behaviors you choose to partake in and follow through with. Yes, this is simple, but it doesn’t mean it is easy. Change takes time and consistent effort.
Today we are going to focus on four daily habits to improve health and wellness. These tasks are realistic and practical, and you can start doing them today if you’re feeling ready and motivated. Be patient with yourself as real change can be tricky, especially in the health area. I recommend that you consult with your doctor before making dietary and fitness changes. This is especially important if you have been diagnosed with any conditions or are on medication.
Exercise & Stay Active
I can’t emphasize more the importance of making time for exercise and movement at least three times a week. Start slowly if you have been sedentary for a while. As you move forward and increase endurance, you can increase your time and difficulty level. If you’re short on time, try to at least get outside and go for a walk. Concentrate on what you can do to move more and stay active throughout the day in general. This small effort to build a new habit can help you physically as well as mentally. If you can’t find time to exercise, I highly recommend evaluating your schedule for tasks that could be shifted around or eliminated. Yes, it’s that important.
Go to Bed Earlier
I know that bedtime is a touchy subject with many women. I understand that there are many things to do if you’re a mom, business owner, or caretaker. Not to mention that late in the evening might be the only time to unwind and do something you love. That said, sticking to a consistent bedtime routine and time is one of those things that can drastically improve your health and wellness. Set an alarm or reminders around your home to remind you to start preparing for bed. If you have trouble winding down and falling asleep consider talking to your doctor for advice. Take Time to Cook
Eating a balanced, whole-food-based diet is another daily habit to adopt if you want to improve your life and be happy and well. Take the time to shop for quality food and try to cook meals and prepare snacks at home as much as you can. Cooking for yourself can also be a relaxing and mindful activity if you’re in the right frame of mind and take your time. Additionally, making your meals gives you more control over what ingredients you’re eating and portion sizes.
Meditate & Reflect
If you want to improve your life and boost your health and happiness, consider meditating and reflecting daily. The nature of meditation allows you to slow racing thoughts and reconnect with your body and inner being. Meditating consistently will help you live more mindfully and be in the present moment which can also reduce stress and anxiety. Also, consider using the moments when you’re reflecting to practice gratitude. Think about your blessings and what you’re thankful for instead of focusing on what you don’t have or your problems. I write out gratitude statements every day, and I can’t tell you how much doing so has changed my health and perspective on my life. This particular activity has the power to transform you into a more positive person who maintains inner peace even in the face of adversity.
