5 Fun Things To Do For Empty-Nester Moms

Kids leaving home is a bittersweet time for both moms and dads.  You’ve done the hard part by raising them to be responsible adults. It’s likely been a journey of ups and downs, victories and some disappointments. Nevertheless, it’s time to let go and let them carve their own path in the world. It is a new season that also presents itself with an opportunity to focus on you and the interests you may have left behind. Here are some fun things to do for empty-nester moms.

Reconnect with Your Partner

With kids out of the house, it’s the perfect chance for you to reconnect with your partner. After all, consider the privacy you’ll have now without all the extra noise, distractions, and responsibility. Yes, this could mean more sex! Whoohoo!!!! But not just that, let’s think about all the time you’ll have to shop, go to the movies, or have a nice date at your favorite restaurant. Get to know each other again and focus on who you both have become.

If you’re single, how about joining a dating site?  There are apps and sites which cater to those in their fifties and above. Not your cup of tea, simply get involved in a club or social group to make some new friends.

Travel

Travel is something many of us have to cut out when we have kids. An annual family vacation is great, but they are usually focused on the kids and not the adults. Because adult travel time is usually sparse during the child-rearing years, empty nesters are usually free to roam the country or world!

You could also do some short trips like exploring local parks, backpacking, and hitting some out-of-town antique shops. You may be able to visit more luxurious destinations now that it’s just the two of you or yourself. Travel and exploring the world gives new meaning to our lives, gives us something to look forward to, and enables us to make memories that last a lifetime.

Get a Makeover

Have you been dressing the same way for years? When was the last time you changed your hair or experimented with some different makeup? If it’s been a while, it’s time to embrace this new season with a brand new you!  This can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be.  Purchase some new clothes, go to the salon, treat and pamper yourself and rock your new look.

You don’t have to be anyone you don’t want to be or look any way that doesn’t reflect the real you. Your kids aren’t there to make sure you look like a mom anymore…lol. I’m not saying you need to buy a mini skirt and dye your hair green (unless you want to!) but use this as a springboard to adventure and fun!

Start a Small Business

Starting a business is a great way to use up some extra time, as well as set yourself up for retirement. It can be managed around your current job and when you’re ready to retire you can continue with it as a fun and easy way to earn money. You can always consult with some experts if you’re a little uncomfortable about how to set things up. Companies that offer IT Solutions, business startup tips, coaching, and marketing advice will be invaluable, especially if you’ve never done anything like this before.

Consider a New Hobby

Hobbies are important for women of all ages, however, they can be a necessary part of life as we get older. Humans need to feel creative and purpose to bring peace and joy. Taking up a new hobby after the kids leave can help you to feel happier and more complete again.

Hobbies allow us to build our skills, meet likeminded people and fill our days with fun. Your hobbies could be anything from cycling to the gym, gardening to flower arranging. You could do a hobby from home, or join a local course or class. Furthermore, you could even do something with your partner or a friend.
