4 Useful Tips To Use Salt For Home, Beauty, And Health

This post was a collaboration and may contain affiliate links. Salt is one of the most useful things you can have in your house. Not only can it help with cleaning and purifying the air, but you can also use it in a number of beauty treatments. Intrigued? Good! Here are some useful tips to use salt for home, beauty, and health.

Salt For Home, Beauty, and Health Tip #1: Not All Salt Is Created Equal

The salts that are beneficial are not necessarily the same ones you normally find in your salt shaker. In fact, other than for flavoring food and some cleaning purposes, table salt has little to no benefit. Instead, for consumption, try Himalayan pink salt. You can find it in most grocery stores, health food stores, online, and even international markets. The natural properties of Himalayan pink salt are what makes it such a hard hitter for your health. Himalayan pink salt contains macro minerals and trace minerals that definitely make it a healthy choice. It costs more than regular table salt, but the benefits far outweigh the higher price. I buy it in bulk at an Asian market to keep the cost down.

Salt For Home, Beauty, and Health Tip #2: Purify and Energize Your Home

Many people have never heard of Himalayan salt lamps and how they create a cleaner and more energetic atmosphere. I, too, was surprised at just how much difference they make the first time I used one. They not only have health benefits but are extremely attractive in any setting. The warm glow instantly gives you a calm and positive feeling. These beauties can be purchased from most health food stores, online merchants, and gift shops. The price normally runs between $20.00 US to $50.00 US, depending on the size.

Salt For Home, Beauty, and Health Tip #3: Beauty Treatments

If your hair is fine and in need of some texture? A sea salt spray can be an answer to your prayers.

How to Make a Sea Salt Spray

Fill a container with boiling water. Take a teaspoon of Himalayan pink salt and dissolve it in the water. Keep doing this, teaspoon by teaspoon, until the liquid is cloudy and the salt is not dissolving as easily. Add a couple of drops of an essential oil to give a pleasant scent and add additional beauty benefits (rosemary is a good option, as it stimulates hair growth).  When cooled, transfer into a spray bottle. Remember when making natural products, try to use them as soon as possible as they don’t stay fresh without a preservative

To Use:

  • On dry hair: Two or three squirts into the lengths of hair, then run your fingers through to create texture.
  • On wet hair: Liberal application, then blow dry as normal

How to Make a Sea Salt Scrub

You can use salt to naturally exfoliate your skin. Sea salt works best for this, as it tends to be more coarse than Himalayan.

You will need:

  • 1 cup of course sea salt
  • 1/2 cup of liquid coconut oil
  • a few drops of an essential oil for aromatherapy benefits (I like grapefruit, orange, and lavender).

To Use:

Rub onto skin in a circular motion and rinse. Wash clean to reveal glowing, fresh skin! Simple!

Salt For Home, Beauty, and Health Tip #4: Home Care

You can use salt as an abrasive cleaner around the house. It can actually replace other harsh cleaners that can be harmful to your family’s health. For this, you can use any type of salt.

To Make:

  • 1/2 cup of salt
  • 2 TBS of coconut oil
  • Juice from 1/2 of a lemon

Mix the ingredients until it forms a paste. You can add more oil or lemon juice if it isn’t coming together. Simply dampen the soiled area slightly and rub directly onto it.  Using a circular motion, work around the area until you get the desired result. Rinse the salt residue.

I love all the wonderful things you can do with salt for your health, beauty, and home care. There are actually so many more uses that I couldn’t share here. Do some research online to see all the ways salt can benefit your life.

About Kellie R. Stone

"I make no excuses for my diverse roles as a Rock Your Feminine Type Coach™ and Branding Expert, best-selling author, and crime thriller novelist. Yes, I do still chuckle a bit at the irony. I kick ass as a women’s biz coach by day and kill off vulnerable fiction characters at night. What the hell, it makes for some interesting dreams. I believe that everyone should pursue their passions no matter how out there they seem to be. One of those pure heart-fluttering passions for me has always been writing. Since I did, indeed, chase my dream of being a writer, I've published two non-fiction books in the self-development genre, co-authored an international best seller, and now I'm finally pushing my much-too-old-to-be-in-the-nest novel out the door and into the world. My whole world is empowering and I adore showing others how to live life unfiltered, whether I do that through the written word or my coaching work. I love my job!" ~Kellie R. Stone
