You’re ready for the next step in your career. You’re scouring the job market, hoping for the right opportunity. You know you deserve to be hired, but how do you make sure that your potential employers recognize your worth? If you already know how to craft a quality resume and you interview well, what else might get you hired quickly? Here are my 3 P’s to land that dream job!
Get You Hired Quickly #1: Preparation
The days of the one and done resume are long over. The truth is, you might even get weeded out before the interview if you haven’t taken the time to customize your resume. Not to mention, you may have varying skill sets and experience that would overcrowd your application.
This diversity can help, but you want to make sure employers can see how it fits specifically into their business and the role you want to fill. Tweak your resume to make it as relevant as possible. Learn more about the business, too. Research an employer before writing a tailor-made resume and preparing interview questions. They will appreciate your effort and see you as a quality candidate.
Get You Hired Quickly #2: Positioning
It’s not just about what employers find in you, it’s also about how they find you. Being in the right place at the right time can help you get hired. For example, if you are an interior designer, you could expand your search to include builders, contractors or commercial construction jobs. Even if most of the work would not fit your qualifications, you could network with industry leaders. They might know of a perfect position for you. Whatever industry you’re in or whatever role you want to find in that industry, think outside the box if the market gets tight. Expanding your search just might land you a dream job that you had not even thought about.
Make sure that you keep your social media accounts up to date and clean. These will be searched by potential employers and can play a role in getting your hired or not considered at all. Present yourself as an industry expert with your blogs, posts and images that pertain to your work and experience.
Get You Hired Quickly #3: Projection
Confidence is crucial when applying for a job and getting through the process. Though, overconfidence can be off-putting, being timid or lacking self-confidence may be more of a problem. Employers must see that you can handle learning new things and meeting new people. From the first line on your resume to the last handshake of the interview, they must see that you know what you’re doing. Project confidence even about things you are unsure about. You do this by being curious and asking quality questions.
You can also project good self-esteem by looking your best and dressing for the role you want. When you look good, you feel good. This shows to everyone around you, especially in situations where you are being judged. Look and sound like a woman that you would want to hire if it was your company.
