5 Ways To Make Your Trucking Business More Eco-Friendly

Unfortunately, every business is contributing to the climate crisis. This is simply because extensive measures must be taken in order to lessen the impact they have on the environment. Even the companies that acknowledge the problem may be leaving a heavy carbon footprint by using poor shipping or manufacturing methods.

If you actually run a trucking business or one that uses delivery vehicles, you have even more responsibility to do what you can to minimize the impact. You see,  the huge rigs that you run and even smaller vehicles all add to the climate crisis.

The good news is that you can make your trucks eco-friendly, and you can lessen the impact that your business has on the environment. Shipping is obviously not going to end anytime soon. We humans will make sure of that. So, what can be done? Let’s take a look at some changes that will help your trucks to be eco-friendly.

Choose Hybrid Trucks

Hybrid trucks run with fuel like PEAKHD alongside fuel cells or batteries. These then produce electricity that powers the truck more efficiently and with less environmental impact. Not to mention, it will save you money, too.

Choose Alternative Fuels

There are trucks that run on biodiesel that is made with soybean, rapeseed and peanut products. This type of fuel is fairly new to the market and isn’t used widely yet. However, it is promising as an alternative fuel and is gaining momentum in the market.

Always Plan Routes

When you send your team out for collections and deliveries, make sure the routes are planned efficiently. Even small trips add up and can end up costing more time, money, and hits on the environment. Plan ahead and try to consolidate loads and trips.

Maintain Your Trucks Well

Regular maintenance keeps trucks and other vehicles running efficiently and minimizes fuel emissions. Some things to watch for are oil leaks, gasoline leaks, burning oil, sluggish acceleration, and odd sounds from the exhaust or engine. Have your mechanic check all vehicles at least once a year for problems and to keep up maintenance.

Recycle What You Can

When your truck(s) go for maintenance or need parts replaced, allow the garage to recycle the tires and other parts. These things often go to landfills and junkyards, creating more waste than necessary. It also helps to purchase refurbished parts instead of brand new.

All of these tips can help your business be more eco-friendly. Implement as many of them as you can for a better global service.
