5 Ways To Cope With Fertility Issues

The desire to have a family can strong and consistent in a woman’s life, which makes it more distressing when fertility problems arise. While many couples experience fertility problems, there are extensive methods and medical technologies to increase the chances of conceiving.

Dealing with fertility problems can be hard on a couple, affecting mental health as well as the relationship itself. Finding ways to cope and move forward can help you and your partner stay strong and ready for the challenges ahead. Here are several ways to cope with fertility issues.

Don’t Ignore Your Feelings

When dealing with significant emotional circumstances such as infertility, it is common to go into a kind of denial and avoidance. Though this type of behavior might make you feel better in the short term, it can be harmful to your relationship and your own mental health. Additionally, hiding how you really feel from your loved ones can create more stress and negative feelings.

Talking to your partner, doctor, and friends about your thoughts, concerns, and emotions can help you accept things and move in a positive direction emotionally and physically. It also allows others the opportunity to help and support you in the ways you need.

Consider All Options

Hearing that you have fertility issues can be devastating, but it doesn’t mean that there aren’t viable options available. There are several things you can do if you’re having difficulty conceiving, including IVF and other treatments that could help you get there.  Do your research and consult with an infertility expert to help you understand what options might be right for your situation. Do also consider other ways of building a family such as fostering, adoption, or using a surrogate.

Find Your Own Personal Ways of Coping

When dealing with a difficult situation like infertility, it’s important to express your grief and frustration in your own way. Some women throw themselves into work or exercise, while others might need to take some quiet time for reflection. If your road has been long and unsuccessful or you’ve dealt with a miscarriage, you may also need to talk to a counselor or others who have similar experiences.

Also, doing sentimental things like getting a miscarriage tattoo or creating a memory box for your lost child can help you to feel connected to your child and yourself as a mother. Everyone is different, but finding ways to cope with your feelings or loss can assist in moving forward healthily.

Find Support

You can find support groups online via social media or in your town if you prefer a live experience. Reaching out to others and sharing your unique experiences and pain can have a positive effect on your mental state as well as your outlook for the future. You might also help someone else who is going through a similar situation. If a group setting doesn’t appeal to you, do talk to someone who can at least listen and offer emotional support.

Take Care of Yourself

During a time when your body and mind are fighting hard to make something happen, it’s important to focus on self-care. Remember, you have a life outside of trying to conceive. Try not to let your relationship with your partner, other children, parents, and friends slip away. They love you and want you to be happy but also want you to see the beauty in life even if you don’t get pregnant. Be mindful of what you’re thinking about and how you spend your time. Are you enjoying your life and taking care of yourself?
