4 Simple Remedies That Could Improve Frequent Back Pain

Staying fit and healthy is one of those challenges that many of us shy away from. Unfortunately, this can lead to simple imbalances turning into chronic conditions. We might put off changing our behavior or seeing a doctor, for fear or because time isn’t on our side. That said, procrastination and avoidance are common with health issues, and you are not alone. One of the most common symptoms is back pain. Yeah, I believe we all can say we’ve experienced it one time or another.

Though experiencing back pain is common, it can be caused by many different factors. It is often attributed to age, overworking, strenuous exercise, or structural problems. There are also a number of conditions that have back pain as a symptom. It’s important to talk to your doctor about all the concerning symptoms you have. From there, you and your healthcare team can make good decisions as to what help you need to lessen or eliminate your back pain. Here are a few simple remedies that I have used for back pain.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic care can be a great positive remedy for back pain if you are able to do so. A chiropractor can not only help you to understand how your spine affects the rest of your body but also minimize pain and stiffness. This type of treatment can be done alone or in conjunction with other medical treatments or therapies. I have found the key to getting the most out of chiropractic is to be consistent and follow the doctor’s recommendations during treatment.

Massage Therapy

Many studies show that massage and touch therapies have the greatest impact on restoring muscle function and the musculoskeletal system. Their effect on relieving muscle pain allows the body to immediately strengthen its ability to heal itself. Massage has various effects on muscle function, but the most significant is its ability to warm them up, thus often alleviating pain altogether. Muscle warming connects the physiology, neurology, and psychology of the body as well.  Additionally, it can increase blood flow and respiration, accelerate nerve conduction (an important part of healing), create synovial fluid in the joint, strengthen cartilage, and improve elasticity.

Supplements

Magnesium is an essential mineral responsible for more than 800 enzymatic processes in the body which also helps muscle and joint function. For many good reasons it is known as the “Miracle Mineral”. Two of its benefits are muscle relaxation and pain reduction. Therefore, keeping magnesium at an optimal level is an important factor in over health.

Magnesium is also needed for proper digestion, as it neutralizes proteins that cause inflammation in the body. This process helps to relax muscles and prevent muscle spasms and pain.

Taking omega 3 fatty acids is also good for joints, as is vitamin D. Because most people are deficient in vitamin D, it is important to get your level checked. If you are found to be deficient in any vitamin or mineral, talk to your doctor about how to eat appropriately or supplement safely.

Avoid Certain Foods

For some, lessening or elimination back pain is as simple as changing their diet. Yes, I know it sounds too simple, but it’s true. Eating poorly or the wrong foods on a regular basis can increase overall inflammation in the body. Aches and pains are common with this type of inflammation, so consider cutting down on or eliminating the following foods for pain relief. You can see which foods are the culprits by eliminating one item at a time. If your pain goes away and returns when you eat the food again, you know it is not being tolerated by your body.

  1. Wheat and Gluten
  2. Coffee
  3. Alcohol
  4. Processed Sugar
  5. Meat
  6. Dairy
  7. Eggs
