For the second component of the I.G.N.I.T.E. series, we will discuss gratification and how to finally have it. the problem I see concerning getting to that fantastic place (we’ll call it the “G” spot just for fun!) is that most women fail at building up to it by connecting to the emotions that would be present when they reach their goal. In other words, we need to feel, taste, smell, touch, and see all that surrounds success before we actually get there. Too many women get all excited (see I Is For Inspiration) about an idea or dream only to get lost in the shuffle of life and responsibilities, never making it to the “G” Spot.
So how do you feel it before you get there?
Do you remember when you were a kid and you couldn’t wait until a big event like your birthday or Christmas was finally here? You’d dream of the wonderful gifts you’d receive or how good that B’day cake always is…your mouth actually watered days before you put it in your mouth. It was as though you could hardly contain the joy and zealous energy before that day. You likely drove your parents crazy asking if it was time yet. That’s the kind of anticipation we need to have for our dreams and goals…to get so excited we nearly pee our pants every time we think about how it’s going to feel to have it in our hands. As children, we were not inhibited by fear that Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Easter, or Birthdays would not play out. No. We just knew they would. Why? Because we were programmed to believe they would by our own experience, by media, and our parents (guardians). Well, what if you could translate that kind of belief and pre-joy to just one of your present dreams? You can.
Visualization and Manifestation
Think about something you want for just a moment. Get it really good in your mind’s eye. Now take it a step further. See yourself actually enjoying the results of having that thing. For example: If you want a different, better job, imagine how you will feel when you receive that doubled paycheck for the first time. What will you buy? How does that feel? See yourself telling someone you love about winning that new position. Visualize him or her reacting to your news. Bring yourself into the “G” spot before it manifests physically. Doing this continually will eventually manifest that desire for real…I swear it works! How long it takes is up to you and the universe, but I will say this: If you practice often and with a focused heart, you will see it happen faster.
Once you get into the habit of meditating on your goals and feeling into them, you will no longer have the fear and frustration that often holds you back. The key is to always look forward to the “G” spot with a child’s resolve. Don’t give up on it until it’s slam dunked in the basket of fulfilled dreams. The alternative is a sad option- to let the dream go, don’t think of it again, and scold anyone who ever mentions it. Asking yourself to give up on something you really want to accomplish is like asking a kid to give up her birthday presents and cake for the rest of her life…that’s a no-no. Can you see how important this part is to your future success at anything?
In my 12 week I.G.N.I.T.E. coaching program, I actually take clients through guided meditation and visualization sessions to teach them how to connect with their inner most emotions surrounding their dreams. This step is so crucial that I don’t believe I would ever coach without it. There are many techniques, but I’ve designed one that works for me and is staple in my practice. You owe it to yourself to discover what works for you. Please don’t hesitate to ask me questions about this topic.
Celebrating the “G” Spot
Once you achieve any form of success, even the smallest win, you must celebrate! This is an important part of building self-trust and a pattern of success. When your body, mind, and spirit experience the elation of the win, they remember. When I say “they remember”, I mean they actually develop neural pathways, muscles, and emotions that coincide with that event. So, naturally when you enter into a similar experience, body, mind and spirit bring you to the same place. This works on the negative side as well. If you always feel fear of failing and disappointment surrounding new ventures and going for your dreams, your being recalls those sorrowful feelings and brings you right back to the same dark place. Whether you like it or not, you are using this memory recall technique. Just make sure you’re putting the right beliefs behind it. Celebrate your small victories and you’ll soon have extravaganzas for the big ones! Tomorrow I will talk about the next step in I.G.N.I.T.E. which happens to be Notification. If you knew Gratification was inevitable, how would that change your actions to reach your goals?
