koriSo ladies, as promised… we are going to spend the next few weeks talking about the different body types.  Before you start thinking about the fruit on your kitchen table (you know… apple, pear…) I’ll let you know right now…. we don’t refer to ourselves as fruit (Rule numero uno), we are WOMEN.  Beautiful, confident, unique women.  The great thing about all of the different body types….. there are wonderful perks to each and every one of them!  Today, we are going to talk about The Hourglass.

Oh The Hottie Hourglass…. what most people in the fashion industry would consider the “ideal” body shape.  You’re curvy!  There are some famous Hourglasses we idolize….. ScarJo, MM, Halle Berry, Angelina Jolie (before she went all rexi on us), and most of the Victoria Secret models (Adriana Lima is my fave!).

You would be an Hourglass if you:Hottie Hourglass

– Have a decent sized bust (might be on the larger side)
– Waistline is defined and narrower than the bustline
– Hips are as wide as the bust
– Body looks proportioned (similar size on top and bottom)

I would have to say that I was blessed to fall into the category, but it does pose it’s own challenges (they didn’t call me Tiggo Bitties in high school for nothing).  Even though The Hourglass is proportioned and clothes don’t have to work too hard to create that ultra-fem look, she still has to be careful with the types of cuts, patterns, and fabrics she chooses.  Here are some easy-to-follow Do’s and Don’ts for The Hourglasses out there!

DO choose clothing that hugs your natural curves (there’s no shame in showing off what you were blessed with!

DON’T wear the baggy oversized shirts and sweaters.  I know they are popular right now, but they do absolutely nothing for your gorgeous shape!

DO choose patterns that follow your curves.  Paisleys, polka dots, florals, and squiggles work great!

DO become familiar with fabrics that move with you.  Jerseys, polyesters, silk, and LYCRA (can make such a huge difference in jeans!)

DON’T wear boxy, double-breasted jackets (the ones that have two sets of buttons) or button down men’s type blouses.  You’ll end up buying two or three sizes larger just to accommodate your chest.

DO put on that smile!  Always!

Alright ladies, I hope that gives you some pointers.  Next week:  I’ll be givin’ a shout out to all those Terrific Triangles out there!  TSP, signing off.  I’ve got some Walking Dead to watch!

  1. I can’t imagine trying to hide an hourglass figure, but I guess we all have our complaints. Your point is well taken though…be the best you can be where you are with your body, buy clothes that flatter you, and wear them with confidence and a smile!
